Nas Documentary on the Way- 'Time Is illmatic'

This year marks the 20th years since Nas's debut album, Illmatic was released, and in its celebration, a documentary about the making of the album is on the way. The good thing about this documentary is that it is going to be premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival this year, on the 16th of April.

Premiering on April 16, "Time is Illmatic" is the second music-themed documentary in a row to open the festival, after last year's "Mistaken for Strangers," about the band the National. It will also be the second year to include a musical performance by the documentary subject. The screening is to be followed by a special concert with Nas performing "Illmatic" from beginning to end. This year's Tribeca Film Festival will run from April 16-27. (New York Times)

The original Illmatic album dropped on the 19th of April, 1994. A 20th anniversary edition (Illmatic XX) is also due to drop on the 15th of April. Below is what Nas had to say about the Illmatic Documentary...

"I want to thank the Tribeca Film Festival for supporting the film with the incredible platform they’ve built over the years. It’s an honor to premiere this film in my hometown. I also want to thank One9 and Erik Parker for their persistence and hard work. Those guys and I come from the same place and era, which gives the doc an authenticity that is important to me. We wanted this film to represent the real, from the storyline all the way down to the directors and producers."
