This installment of Rosebud's Tribute To Her Favorite Singers may be a bit of a surprise. Then again we did just have a Country Music show pick by Rosebud so Gordon Lightfoot isn't such a stretch. You would be hard pressed to find someone who grew up in Michigan that doesn't know "The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald". The song or the shipwreck that inspired it. Gordon Lightfoot's music was also all over Michigan Radio Stations. The Legenday AM Radio Station CKLW out of Windsor, Ontario, Canada would play Gordon Lightfoot all the time. The station carried American artists but had a Canadian artist first policy. A lot of Michigan artists would open an office in Canada just to get radio airplay on CKLW. Legend says that the station wired it's transmitter to The Windsor-Detroit Tunnel making the Detrot River a transmitter. This made the station heard as far as Scandinavia. In actuality the tunnel was wired so that CKLW could still be heard in the tunnel. If that helped boost it's signal I don't know. Now the tunnel is wired so that WJR Detroit AM can be heard while driving in the tunnel.
